Considering Working from Home amidst COVID-19?

The main reasons for people who want to remotely work are to escape all the traffic jams, to save more or to be able to spend more quality time with their loved ones.

However, all these became just secondary reasons when the pandemic hits the world. It is now very ideal for everyone who needs to make a living to work from home. When people go out, they may likely encounter the invisible enemy which is the COVID-19 Virus. It is very hard to determine who are the carriers especially for those who are asymptomatic. People fear that they might risk their family's health and welfare.

These people who might consider working from home are parents, career shifters, or people who lost their jobs due to this pandemic.

Uncertain of How to Start a Home-Based Job?

Many realized that everything we have established in life can be suddenly taken away. Many can’t even imagine that with all the advanced technology in our current days, this pandemic will be the main perpetrator of stealing lives and livelihoods.

But how do you work from home? Here are a few things you need to have to start your work from home journey according to JobStreet:

1. Workspace

It can be in your dining room, bedroom, or living room as long as you are comfortable and the place is ideal for work.

2. Computer or Laptop

It must have the following specifications:

- I5 or I7 Processor

- 8GB of RAM is recommended for tasks requiring video editing or graphic design; but you can also go for 4GB of RAM.

- SDD is faster than HDD. 128GB of SDD is enough but you can partner it with free cloud storage. Aim for a higher SDD if necessary.

3. Strong Internet Connection. Mostly, some prefer wired connections as WIFI can be unstable at times.

Where to start? First, know your niche. Many venture in online selling or freelancing and for this article, freelancing will be the main focus. There are lots of freelancing platforms and two of them are UpWork and OnlineJobs.

For those who are new to this path of working from home, it is important to have knowledge or background on the tasks that can be assigned to a freelancer or virtual assistant. However, there are also a few newbies who just push through with their application and still are very successful in the field. Why? It is because of their determination and attitude towards learning more skills along the way. Nevertheless, it will also be good if you are already introduced to possible tasks.

These tasks may include the following: Administrative Support such as Data Entry, Email Management, Forms and File Management, Appointment Setting and Calendar Management; Transcription, Customer Service Skills (Email or Chat Support), Social Media Marketing and Management, Simple Web Creation and Optimization; and many more.

Being trained in these fields will be of great help and will enhance your confidence. In our country alone, there are many agencies, consultancies, or academies that offer either free or paid trainings. One of them is FVA Consultancy.

FVA Consultancy, better known as Filipino Virtual Assistance, has already trained more than 10,000 virtual assistants. They offer a wide variety of trainings for freelancers such as the Freelancing Course, which is recommended for those who are just starting in the field. Most of the trainings are paid but they also offer free trainings which they usually announce on their Facebook page. One of their students is Marie Krista Satana of MK Virtuals Studio (previously known as MK Satana Freelancing Services).

For now, working from the comfort of your home may be the new normal. As long as these pandemic exist, many will continuously be anxious but know that the time will come that this virus will come to an end. Remember that God has greater plans for everyone as said in Jeremiah 29:11 and that there is a time or a season for everything under the heavens (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
